Extra Dark: Bonus DVR picks for Bing Crosby's 105th!

Because Johnny Carp is a big fan and he controls the content of the website and the DVR picks, this Extra Dark is a bonus list of DVR picks as TCM pays tribute to one of Johnny Carp's favorite radio personalities, musicians, and film actors...Mr. Bing Crosby!

 DVR Picks of the Week

Turner Classic Movies salutes Bing Crosby:

Pennies from Heaven (TCM): Friday at 7:15 a.m.
A singer gets mixed up with a grieving family and a haunted house. Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong and Madge Evans star in this 1936 comedy that kicks off a TCM birthday tribute to Bing Crosby who would have been 105 on Saturday May 3.
Johnny Carp note: I haven’t seen this. I am DVR-ing it myself to check it out.

The Bells of St. Mary’s (TCM): Friday at 8:45 a.m.

Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman star in this sequel to Bing’s Academy Award Winning Going My Way. Bing returns as a liberal priest and tries to soften the strict nun running a boys' school.
Johnny Carp note: Not the best sequel ever...I prefer Going My Way.

The Road to Bali (TCM): Friday at 11:00 a.m.
Bob Hope and Bing Crosby star as two song-and-dance men on the run dive for treasure while competing for a beautiful princes played by Dorothy Lamour. This is the sixth edition of the Hope-Crosby “Road” pictures.
Johnny Carp note: A fantastic and hilarious film. The only “Road’ movie in color!

The Country Girl (TCM): Friday at 12:45 p.m.
In an early example of casting against type, Bing Crosby stars as an alcoholic singer trying to make a comeback while his wife played by Grace Kelly, in her lone Oscar winning role, fights her love for another man, played by William Holden.
Johnny Carp note: You should just buy this movie. It is that good.

High Society (TCM): Friday at 2:30 p.m.
It is a musical version of The Philadelphia Story, featuring the music of Cole Porter. Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong star in this story of two tabloid reporters invading a society wedding.
Johnny Carp note: My favorite musical ever. Grace Kelly, Bing, and Frank Sinatra...how can you lose? Buy this after you watch it.

Man on Fire (TCM): Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Bing Crosby stars as a divorced man fighting for custody of his son when his ex-wife remarries. This is the only film today that I haven’t seen, but is probably the one I am most looking forward to.
Johnny Carp note: I haven’t seen this either. I am DVR-ing it myself to check it out.

The Road to Hong Kong (TCM): Friday at 6:15 p.m.
In the final “Road” picture, a pair of con men gets mixed up in international intrigue and the space race. Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Joan Crawford star in this film, which features a cameo appearance by the previous six films’ leading lady Dorothy Lamour.
Johnny Carp note: The final “Road” picture. It isn’t that great, but worth checking out.
